Why Hidden Heroes?
Europe funds thousands of projects that change lives: researchers, teachers, nurses, engineers and neighbours who solve real problems. Most of their stories never leave a project report. Hidden Heroes of Europe turns each project into a comic-book superhero and tells its story in plain language. The heroes are drawn in the clean-line style of European comics, a tradition with deep roots in Brussels, where this project was born.
Who runs it
This is a personal, non-profit project. It is not an official channel of the European Union or any of its institutions, and everything published here reflects personal views only.
How we check the facts
- Every figure comes from an official or primary source, linked on each hero page: Kohesio, CORDIS, keep.eu, the Erasmus+ results platform, the Funding & Tenders Portal or the project's own website.
- We always separate a project's total budget from the EU contribution, and give the fund, the period and whether the project is still running.
- We only report documented results. If a project has not published its impact, we don't estimate it.
- We contact each project before publishing so they can check the facts. Pages still waiting for that review are marked as drafts.
Corrections
If you spot an error, tell us through the contact page or at hello@hiddenheroes.eu. We fix it on the page and note the correction.
Privacy
We count visits with GoatCounter, an open-source tool that uses no cookies and collects no personal data. We only see anonymous totals, such as which pages are read and from which countries.
About the illustrations
Hero illustrations are generated with AI and labelled as such. Each hero represents a project, never a specific real person.
