The problem

A threat underfoot

Landslides, rockfalls, floods, coastal erosion and earthquakes are real risks across Europe's Atlantic regions. Scientists monitor them, but the people who live with these risks every day were rarely part of the warning system.

The mission

What the project does

AGEO brought scientists, local communities and policy makers together. It set up five pilot Citizens' Observatories where residents help monitor geological risks, and an app to issue alerts, report events and learn about the hazards around them. It also encouraged regions to use European data such as the Copernicus Earth-observation programme.

Documented results

What it achieved

  • Five pilot Citizens' Observatories tested in several Atlantic regions, covering landslides, rockfalls, floods and seismic risk.
  • A cooperation and resource platform on Atlantic geohazard risk.
  • An app for alerts, event reports and educational content on geological risks.
  • Winner of the REGIOSTARS Awards 2025 in the 'A Green Europe' category, also chosen in the Public Choice vote.
Local summary ES
